Hello working together Peter and Debbie make up Aknot Fabrications.
We are based at two locations - the beautiful Adelaide Hills and the now the Southern Flinders Ranges. We meet fortnightly (now Deb has moved from Adelaide) to discuss what needs to be done, and cut out our orders and components that are needed to help keep the orders flowing smoothly. We normally do deliveries on a Friday which enables country orders to be there on a Monday. If your transport company leaves on a different day just let us know and we will have it there on the designated day. Normally an order, depending on the size, will be completed on a 7 day turn around basis, sometimes due to the Southern Flinders location some itemsmay be a little longer.
This business was first just a hobby with my/our Dad, we decided that there was a need to provide a sturdy product to help our pets with their survival (food and water). We needed products that would last with the harsh Australian sun. We have all had plastic products made overseas which are not UV stabilised. By manufacturing quality products made to last, this allows us to persue our passion of four wheel driving and camping without being worried that our birds and chooks had no seed and water due to substandard products that harsh sun does tend to crumble plastic at the most inappropriate time.
Starting out in my garden shed, Dad and I produced products from a paper plan, we thought we were onto something when we upgraded our plans to cardboard. Since then we have upgraded to metal patterns and together with our original designs we reproduce our products one by one. Many of these designs over the years have been altered in some way but the original ideas are the same. Dad is now no longer with us, but with the help of my sister, we have grown and turned Dad's hobby and ideas into a small business. Sometimes we now ponder - what would Dad say now his hobby and dream is now on the web, can just hear him now!. Back in my day (ha ha) we didn't have this technology, not real sure whether he would have coped. But we had to move with the times and hopefully he would be very proud.
We are still based in our sheds, although, we have expanded with the times and now have two locations. Originally both in Southern Area of Adelaide, Deb has since moved and is enjoying the Southern Flinders Ranges. No big luxury workshop for us, we make Bird, Poultry, Horse, Dog and Snake products still from our backyards. All our items are hand made using top quality Australian materials sourced locally from South Australia thus helping the local economy.
Although Deb has moved away from Adelaide we are still trying to provide the same service that we have for the past 8 years, albeit that Deb comes to Adelaide on a regular basis to pick up components to return them each fortnight. There will as with all moves and changes, be some teething problems but the aim and insight is in place to still provide the same old fashion service to our customers. As the move has just taken place November 2011 (and the silly season upon us) we hope that you all understand and bare with us.
